Women Working

Urban assessment guide from a gender perspective

Urban assessment guide from a gender perspective

The “Women Working” guide is a tool to give visibility to the experiences and knowledge of women in the field of urban planning, but also to question the division of labor and advocate for environments where domestic and care tasks are shared socially and not continue to be the exclusive responsibility of women.

This guide is addressed to women’s associations and groups who wish to participate in urban transformation and in the physical and social improvement in the neighborhoods, towns or cities. This guide is also a tool to ensure that participatory processes in the urban planning field become transformative participatory processes, where women are active agents in the analysis and improvement of the environment.

The focus of this guide is on women’s groups, but it contains tools that can be used by other grassroots groups that want to participate in the urban transformation of their surroundings.

The tools presented help people who use them to become aware of the knowledge they have of their neighborhoods and surroundings, and to make an urban assessment from a gender perspective. The guide includes tools (activities) that can be used in the different phases of a diagnosis (1. Let’s inform ourselves, 2. We describe and analyze our everyday life environment, 3. We share our experience, 4. We continue working) and the Experiences section where the application of these tools is exemplified.
